We are delighted to kick off our blog, which will feature a host of information about Fountaingate Gardens, Gurwin’s soon-to-be-built proposed senior independent living community. Look for future posts to include staff profiles, future resident profiles, event recaps and highlights, answers to frequently asked questions, construction updates and more! Here, in our first post, the Fountaingate Gardens team wanted to take this opportunity to introduce this exciting project to you.
What is Fountaingate Gardens?
Fountaingate Gardens is a proposed Life Plan independent living community, also known as a continuing care retirement community (CCRC). Our vision for the community is that it will be a place where seniors can live their best life – where they can engage their passions, pursue new hobbies, and participate in total wellness – emotionally, physically, mentally and socially.
The physical space will include beautiful, new private residences; exciting, state-of-the-art amenities and services; a gorgeous clubhouse; and some of the best dining options around. Residents will have access to all of this without any of the stress and worry that comes from living in a house. This community will be an epicenter of culture and excitement – from its ideal location, just a short distance from New York City, to partnerships with the Hamlet, the YJCC, the public library and many other community organizations, residents will have a plethora of options and events to fill their calendars.
Who is the team behind Fountaingate Gardens?
Fountaingate Gardens is being created by the same people who have provided excellent, award-winning health care to Long Island seniors for more than 30 years – Gurwin Healthcare System. The addition of this independent living community will complete the continuum of care on Gurwin’s 34-acre campus in Commack, thus creating a wonderful Life Plan retirement community.
What is a Life Plan or Continuing Care Retirement Community?
A continuing care retirement community (CCRC) is a retirement living option for active seniors who wish to continue and embrace their dynamic lifestyles. CCRCs focus on providing exceptional lifestyle amenities, like fitness centers, fine dining, and events, for seniors who wish to dismiss the burdens that come along with homeownership.
CCRCs also provide a full continuum of health care services for residents, including assisted living, skilled nursing and rehabilitation, should residents ever need them.
What does it mean to be a proposed community in the state of New York?
A proposed community is one that will be built and opened after the Department of Health of New York State has issued the community a Certificate of Authority to operate, and the requirements for construction have been met. This means that prospective residents are not yet able to enter into health care contracts or reserve an apartment home until the community receives a Certificate of Approval.
Instead of entering into a contract at this point, prospective residents of Fountaingate Gardens can be guaranteed priority admittance in the proposed community by entering a Priority Reservation Agreement, and paying a fully refundable priority reservation fee. This agreement is not a continuing care contract and can be cancelled at anytime, either by the prospective resident or their legal representative. With the priority reservation agreement, prospective residents will be able to ensure a space at this anticipated new community without the full commitment of a contract agreement.
One significant advantage of reserving space in a proposed community is that you have guaranteed access to brand new buildings, facilities and amenities. The advantage of reserving a space at Fountaingate Gardens is that, as part of Gurwin, you know your health care services are from a leading, established and trusted provider with whom you may already be familiar.
